Real Life

Maybe I haven't been looking hard enough, but most of the Catholic mommy blogs I've read are just so perfect. A picture of two stray toys in the kids' room and they're apologizing for the crazy mess. Then there's the humorous anecdotes about the children, quietly tussling over who will get to announce the mysteries of the family Rosary tonight. All the kids, even the two-year-olds, happily sit through Mass. Their church directory photo is all smiles and matching outfits.

We are not that family.

My boys are loud. My girl is learning to be loud. My children do not enjoy sitting still and we cart the younger ones off to the nursery so we can attend Mass with a wiggling six-year-old. If everyone has shoes on when we're driving to get the oldest from school, it's a banner day. My house is only clean when someone is coming over and even then it's right on the border of "lived-in" and horribly disorganized. My three-year-old is climbing up onto my head as I type this.

I'd like to think that we have every chance of being in heaven with those calm, organized families. This is the story of our very imperfect lives.
